Jesse’s Bar Mitzvah

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Jesse's Bar Mitzvah at the charming Beach Hebrew Institute in downtown Toronto. Jesse’s simcha took place on a chilly fall afternoon on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Jesse arrived with his family looking dapper and excited for the celebrations ahead.

I began the photoshoot taking shots of Jesse reading Torah in the main sanctuary. He looked so handsome in his blue suit, and he posed very naturally for the camera. Jesse’s parents looked on proudly as he demonstrated his impressive Torah-reading skills. Afterwards, I took photos of Jesse on the bima with his little brother, parents, and grandparents. Such special, emotional moments!

Next, I headed outside with Jesse for a one-on-one photoshoot. We took some fun shots against brick walls and garage doors with cool graffiti. Jesse posed like a star. We then brought in Jesse's little brother and parents for more photos, followed by shots with Jesse’s grandparents.

After the family photoshoot, we moved into the shul for a beautiful Havdallah service led by Cantor Moshe Saadon. The service was warm and heartfelt, and you could feel the love in the room.

Following the service, everyone walked over to Limon Restaurant, a cozy and rustic venue on Queen Street, for Jesse's dinner party. The decor was beautiful with blue, silver, and white balloons and individualized table cards with photos of Jesse at different ages on each table.

The Middle Eastern food was delicious! Everyone enjoyed the falafel platters while they laughed and schmoozed at their tables. Guests had fun using different props at the photobooth, and Jesse's parents gave emotional speeches that touched everyone in the room.

Then came the hora – the highlight of the evening! So much energy, love, and joy as family and friends held hands and danced around the room. The expression on Jesse’s face as he was lifted up on his chair was priceless! Everyone had a wonderful time.

I feel privileged to have been a part of this simcha, and I'm so grateful to Jesse and his family for allowing me to capture their precious moments. Mazal Tov, Jesse and family!
